This is an open invitation to participate in the full day workshop Applications of Optimization - Best Practice and Challenges organized by the Danish Operations Research Society. The workshop will take place on March 10, 2011 at Axelborg in the center of Copenhagen. See dorsnet.dk/aoo2011.
The main purpose of the workshop is to highlight some of the main challenges faced by organizations seeking to adopt quantitative optimization methods in their business processes. The workshop will focus on presenting the subject of business optimization in a non-technical manner.
This will be the third AOO workshop that DORS organizes. This year, much focus will be given to organizational and management-related sides of applications of optimization within the industry. We present how recent trends in data collection, algorithms, and computing have radically changed the practical role of Operations Research and have given rise to the phrase "business analytics". We show how Copenhagen Airports A/S decided to change its organization in order to strengthen its focus on optimization and business analytics. We offer an exciting contribution from one of the world’s leading providers of optimization solutions and information systems to the aviation industry, Jeppesen, presenting how the establishment of a dedicated Operations Research group in 1997 has given rise to substantial cost savings for the company. Finally, we present a case illustrating both benefits and pitfalls of a tight collaboration between the industry (Natuzzi) and the theoretical world.
Each talk will be followed by a brief discussion session allowing you to get input on current challenges you might currently be facing or otherwise seek additional details on specific aspects of the presented topic.
For additional details on the workshop please refer to dorsnet.dk/aoo2011 where you will also find a registration form, abstracts for the individual talks, and details about the venue.
