One of the World’s leading visualisation experts, , Chris North of Virginia Tech (http://people.cs.vt.edu/~north/) is in Denmark.
He gives a DIKU Talk this Wednesday at 15.15 p.m. at our Southern Campus (Amager).

Abstract

The research in advanced interaction techniques is about developing and testing new forms of interaction. Whereas graphical user interfaces (GUIs) are the most widely used interaction style, new proposals styles are emerging, both as principles for structuring interaction (e.g., non-command user interfaces, natural user interfaces, non-WIMP user interfaces, reality-based interaction) and as concrete technologies that support interaction (e.g., tangible user interfaces, physical computing, bendable displays). These principles and technologies share a desire to advance interaction technologies beyond the GUI.

Our goal is to understand the usability of advanced interaction techniques. In particular, we are interested in how the techniques work for complex real-life tasks, for experts, and over time.
Wallviz is an actual example of how advanced interaction techniques are used both in research and applied in three cases to produce radically new Management Information Systems.

At the end of this DIKU Talk the new Wallviz GUI Display will be demonstrated.

About the lecturers:

Chris North is Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Center for Human-Computer Interaction, Virginia Tech.
His research focuses on
Interactive visualization with large high-resolution displays, insight-based evaluation of visualization, Snap-Together Visualization, usability of information visualization, cognitive processing of multiple views, visual data aggregation, combining visualization and data mining.

Kasper Hornbæk is Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen - and part of the Human Centered Computing Research Group.
His research focuses on
Human-computer interaction, usability research, eye tracking, visualization, and software engineering. He is presently involved in the Wallviz reasearch project which exlores how advanced interaction techniques are used both in research and applied in three cases to produce radically new Management Information Systems.
